Senior Associate, Validations
I am Wendy Pius, a Senior Validation Associate of Grant Services. I support our Rapid Response Team in their international and domestic validation reviews. Prior to this role, I supported a team of professionals that conduct charity outreach and application management for the validation process at CAF America. I take pride in the diverse array of organizations and causes that we work with on a daily basis. The combined efforts of our charity partners and donor clients have a direct hand in enabling underserved communities to create long lasting change not only within their communities but the world at large.
Prior to joining CAF America, I worked for the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan supporting the Post Language Program under its Executive Director. During my time in Jordan I also worked with the University of Jordan and Jerash University in publishing a study on identity politics and homegrown terrorism in the EU. Back in the US, I’ve volunteered and interned with organizations such as the Syrian Community Network and the Fund for Peace.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University. Concentrating on National Security, Foreign policy, and the Middle East and North Africa region, my degree took me to 8 different countries during my 3 years as a Global Scholar at AU. A book I read during my time at American University, Aisha Ahmad’s (2018) Jihad & Co.: Black Markets and Islamist Power, inspired me to switch career paths to the development sector. In light of the experiences I’ve had living abroad, combined with Ahmad’s work dissecting foriegn intervention in the Middle East and advocating for a modern, bottom-up approach to de-escalation and peace, I’ve found the perfect balance between security and development work at CAF America.
In my spare time, I enjoy searching for the best happy hour DC has to offer, learning languages, reading YA fantasy novels, traveling, and sushi!
