The people of Sudan need our help. In mid-April, violence erupted between the Sudanese army and a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces. Despite brokering multiple ceasefires, conflict between these groups has continued, centered primarily around the capital of Khartoum and in the western region of Darfur. Civilians are increasingly affected throughout the country; news outlets are reporting that electricity is spotty and food and water are in short supply.
As of mid-May, over 200,000 people have already fled Sudan to surrounding countries (such as South Sudan, Chad, Ethiopia, and Egypt). An additional 700,000 people are internally displaced within Sudan. This humanitarian crisis is expected to grow—U.N. agencies are estimating that five million additional people will need aid as a result of this conflict.
We know that giving in this region can be challenging and must be done with great care and diligence. CAF America is committed to serving our donor clients, especially in the face of conflict. Our main focus remains on protecting your ability to give as donors through our regulations, risk, and reputational model. This includes following all U.S. laws and IRS guidelines and protocols related to charitable giving as political situations unfold around the globe.
We have reached out to all of our eligible charities in the region to confirm their work in response to the disaster, and will continue to keep the below list of organizations responding to this crisis up to date.

Organizations in the Region
Impact Health Organisation: Impact Health Organisation is actively working to respond to the crisis in Sudan, particularly in support of South Sudanese refugees who are fleeing into South Sudan due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. We are part of the partners under the South Sudan Emergency Response for the Crisis in Sudan and currently we are planning to provide direct support to refugees and displaced persons. Our organization is focusing on providing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) including protection and psychosocial support, Health, Nutrition Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services. We are also working closely with local authorities and partner organizations to ensure that refugees have access to necessary services.

International Rescue Committee, Inc.: IRC’s initial response is focused on ensuring that basic services/needs are met and supporting the affected population with healing and trauma support. A mixed approach of direct implementation and working with partners will be used for the response. Direct intervention will be prioritized as per sector-wise state to support the affected populations, whereas given the context in specific locations options of working with partners (already existing partners and new ones) will be further explored. IRC will work in coordination with local health authorities and other partners to reinforce local systems and capacities.

EMERGENCY Ong Onlus: EMERGENCY keeps open 3 facilities in Sudan: the Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery in Khartoum, The Salam Centre remains the only completely free cardiac surgery hospital in an area home to over 300 million people, and one of very few on the African continent offering highly specialized, free treatment to patients suffering from acquired and congenital cardiovascular diseases. Pediatric Center in Port Sudan, where we provide high-quality medical care for children under the age of 14, in an area of 800,000 people with no other free healthcare facilities, Pediatric Center in Nyala, South Darfur.
